This is the Very Limited Edition Black Vinyl (#/355), pressed on black vinyl and one of the original Kickstarter awards. I didn't purchase this.

 

The story of the Mercury vinyl release is rather complicated to unravel. There are four different colours (solid red, marbled red, marbled blue, black), two of which exist in two pressings (marbled blue, black), and two different covers (gatefold, single-pocket). Originally, the band announced the following rewards for their Kickstarter campaign to fund the vinyl:

-- Limited Edition Black Vinyl (355 copies available as Kickstarter rewards)

-- Very Limited Edition Colored Vinyl - marbled blue (50 copies available as Kickstarter rewards)

-- Ultra-Limited Edition Colored Vinyl - marbled red (20 copies available as Kickstarter rewards)

These pressing numbers are based on the reward options from the Kickstarter campaign. Perhaps some extra copies were pressed. Only 375 people could participate in the campaign, since all rewards were offered in limited quantities. The Very Limited Edition Colored Vinyl was only available in combination with a Limited Edition Black Vinyl. The 20 top tier participants received an Ultra-Limited Edition Colored Vinyl when they would visit one of the listening parties together with the members of the band.

 

The vinyl was originally set to be released in July-2015, but due to severe manufacturing delays the first batch of 200 black vinyl was posted only in December-2015. The second batch of black vinyl and the marbled blue vinyl were sent out in January-2016. My marbled blue/black copies were sent out on 23-January-2016 and arrived on 26-January-2016. The red marbled vinyl was only sent out in April-2016, since the first pressing was bad and had to be replaced. I have come to believe that the first run was mistakenly pressed on solid red vinyl instead of marbled red vinyl.

 

2015-2016 original Kickstarter releases:

-- first pressing black vinyl in gatefold cover (December 2015)

-- first pressing marbled blue vinyl in gatefold cover (January 2016)

-- first pressing marbled red vinyl in gatefold cover (April 2016)

 

Unfortunately, delays were not the only issue, but pressing quality as well. Many of the black and marbled blue pressings turned out to be defective and the band had a second pressing done to replace the original pressing. These second pressings can be distinguished by the presence of a small ⓶ in the matrix. They were sent out to the original kickstarter backers without a cover or lyrics sheet.

 

2016-2017 replacement second pressing:

-- second pressing black vinyl without cover (sent out exclusively to Kickstarter backers)

-- second pressing marbled blue vinyl without cover (sent out exclusively to Kickstarter backers)

 

When all the Kickstarter backers had been satisfied there was still a decent amount of black second pressing copies left. Because they had run out of stock of gatefold covers, they decide to produce a single-pocket cover to complete the black second pressing copy and offered them up for sale on December 22, 2017.

 

2017 leftover second pressing:

-- second pressing black vinyl with single-pocket cover (available to the general public)

 

On June 5, 2020, the Prayer Chain decided to put all remaining stock (with quantities in single and double figures) up for sale through their Bandcamp page. Five different versions were offered up for sale:

-- first pressing marbled blue vinyl in gatefold cover (identical to the original Kickstarter reward)

-- first pressing marbled red vinyl in gatefold cover (identical to the original Kickstarter reward)

-- first pressing solid red vinyl in gatefold cover (wrong colour pressing of the original Kickstarter reward)

-- second pressing marbled blue vinyl in gatefold cover (previously only sent out to Kickstarter backers without cover)

-- second pressing marbled blue vinyl in single-pocket cover (new combination)

 

This leads to the following list of available versions of Mercury on vinyl:
